Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney Statement Regarding Mass Shooting in Buffalo

“I was shocked and saddened by the horrific acts of violence in Buffalo on Saturday. I pray for the victims, their families and all those affected by these hateful and senseless acts.

Hate is corrosive. It eats at the fabric of an individual and the foundation of a civilized society. When encouraged or ignored it can turn deadly. Unfortunately, we have seen this in Suffolk County, and now most recently in Buffalo and Brooklyn. Hate destroys lives and diminishes all of us. We must work together to stop it any way we can. Our country is at its best and, as individuals, we are at our best when we are united.

My thoughts are with the victims of these heinous crimes and the people who loved them. I stand with those who combat violence and hatred, and I commit that my office will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of our entire community.”

Criminal complaints and indictments are merely accusatory instruments. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. No one is above the law.
