(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Omar Stevenson, 44, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison followed by 15 years of post-release supervision for raping and sexually abusing a 12-year-old female.
“This defendant violated the trust of the victim by taking advantage of her innocence,” said District Attorney Tierney. “He will serve a substantial prison sentence for his actions thanks to the bravery of the victim in coming forward to tell her story.”
According to court filings and the defendant’s admissions at his guilty plea, Stevenson assaulted the young victim on four separate occasions from November 2021 through December 2021. The crimes were discovered when the victim’s mother saw that Stevenson called the victim in the early morning hours after his last attack. After confronting Stevenson as to why he was calling her daughter, the mother discovered inappropriate text messages between Stevenson and the victim through the child’s social media account. The evidence against Stevenson included the matching of his DNA to DNA recovered from clothing the victim wore during the last assault.
On November 22, 2022, Stevenson pleaded guilty before County Court Judge, the Honorable Karen M. Wilutis, to Rape in the First Degree, a Class B violent felony. On March 1, 2023, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison, followed by 15 years of post-release supervision.
In addition, Stevenson has been certified as a sex offender. His sex offender risk level designation will be determined upon his release from prison. Stevenson was represented by Howard Lee, Esq.
