Farmingville Man Sentenced to 15 to 21 Years in Prison for Sex Trafficking

Mitchell Johnson Was Found Guilty in March After a Jury Trial

(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Mitchell Johnson, 38, of Farmingville, was sentenced to 15 to 21 years in prison after being found guilty of Sex Trafficking and other related charges, for using physical violence, deception, and narcotics to induce a woman to engage in sexual acts with others for profit.

“Today’s sentence reflects the gravity of the harm inflicted on a victim of human-trafficking controlled by drugs and violence,” said District Attorney Tierney. “While no punishment can undo the trauma, removing this offender from our streets helps protect others and stands as a commitment to those who have endured exploitation that their voices matter.”

The evidence at trial established that beginning in March 2023, Johnson reached out to the victim pretending to be another woman. Once the victim was lured to a motel, Johnson provided her with crack cocaine as a means of impairing her judgment to induce her to engage in paid sexual acts with third parties. Johnson used the victim’s addiction as a tool to control her and imposed rules upon her that she was required to follow, including that she was not allowed to keep any money for herself and that she was not allowed to leave the motel room alone. Johnson threatened the victim and her family with physical violence if his commands were not obeyed.

On March 30, 2026, Johnson was convicted of the following charges after a jury trial heard before Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei:
· One count of Sex Trafficking (Force), a Class B violent felony;
· Two counts of Sex Trafficking, Class B felonies; and
· One count of Promoting Prostitution in the Second Degree, a Class C felony.

On April 29, 2026, Johnson was sentenced to 15 to 21 years in prison, and he must register as a sex offender. Johnson was represented by Chase Brown, Esq.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Katherine Flinchum and Sean Murphy of the Hate Crimes, Elder Abuse, Anti-Bias, Human Trafficking Unit (H.E.A.T.), and the investigation was conducted by Detective Kathleen Aspromgos of the Suffolk County Police Department’s Human Trafficking Investigations Unit.

Criminal complaints and indictments are merely accusatory instruments. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. No one is above the law.
