(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Marion Maupin, 33, of Ridge, was convicted after a jury trial of Robbery in the First Degree and other related charges, for robbing a Yaphank gas station at gunpoint.
“This defendant pointed a loaded gun at a gas station clerk’s head during the commission of this crime, and he did it with two prior felony convictions already on his record,” said District Attorney Tierney. “I thank the jury for their careful attention during this case. The verdict was a just outcome, and we hope that the defendant’s sentence will reflect the full weight of this crime and his criminal history.”
According to the evidence established at trial, on January 24, 2025, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Maupin and his accomplice, Raiquan Davis, 28, of Coram, entered a Shell gas station in Yaphank. Both men were wearing hoodies and masks. While in the gas station, Davis acted as the lookout by the door, while Maupin pointed a loaded firearm at the clerk’s head, demanded money, and stole cash from the register. Maupin and Davis then fled the gas station, together, in a white Cadillac.
Fifth precinct officers observed the white Cadillac in Bellport and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Refusing to stop, Maupin and Davis led police on a pursuit lasting approximately 15 minutes, at points driving more than 100 mph.
During the pursuit and while the car was still in motion, officers observed Maupin and Davis abandon the Cadillac and throw a firearm into a neighboring yard before the vehicle crashed into a telephone pole in front of a home daycare. Maupin and Davis attempted to flee on foot but were ultimately arrested in the rear yard of that daycare. The firearm recovered by law enforcement in the neighboring yard was later determined to be loaded and operable and was consistent with the firearm used during the robbery.
On April 28, 2026, Maupin was convicted of the following charges after a jury trial heard before Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei:
- Robbery in the First Degree, a Class B violent felony;
- Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class C violent felony;
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C violent felony; and
- Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree; a Class A misdemeanor.
In 2013, Maupin was sentenced to three years in prison after he was convicted of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. In 2019, Maupin was again convicted of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and sentenced to five years in prison.
Maupin is due back in court for sentencing on May 28, 2026. Based on his prior convictions, he faces up to 25 years to life in prison. He is being represented by Keith O’Halloran, Esq.
