Two Men Arraigned on Indictment in Connection to Fatal Shooting of Southampton Man on Christmas Day

(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that two men were arraigned on an indictment in connection to the fatal shooting of a Southampton man on December 25, 2021.

(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that two men were arraigned on an indictment in connection to the fatal shooting of a Southampton man on December 25, 2021.

“As alleged, these defendants murdered Mr. Byrnes, who was known to them, for drugs and drug proceeds,” said Tierney. “This type of violence will not be tolerated and the defendants will be called to account for their callous actions.”

Dominick Parisi, 57, of Hampton Bays was arrested on Jan. 16 and is being held without bail. Dangelo Soto, 21, of Brentwood surrendered to Suffolk County Police this morning. Both Parisi and Soto are charged with one count of Murder in the Second Degree and two counts of Burglary in the First Degree.

As alleged at the arraignments and in court documents, on December 25, 2021 at about 8:43 a.m., Steven Byrnes, 53, was asleep in his bedroom inside his home at 90 Roses Grove Road in Southampton when the masked defendants entered the home though an attached garage with the intention to steal cocaine and cash from Byrnes. The defendants, who were dressed in black and wearing gloves, went straight to Byrnes’ bedroom and were heard yelling and demanding “where is the stuff?”

During the course of the home invasion, the defendants allegedly struck the victim in the head with a shotgun and as the victim tried to flee, he was shot in the back and killed. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner determined that Byrnes died as a result of a single gunshot wound and classified the death as a homicide.

Suffolk County District Court Judge Karen M. Wilutis ordered both men held without bail. Parisi is due back in court on March 2. Soto is due back in court on March 3.

The case is being prosecuted by ADA Kerriann Kelly, Bureau Chief of the Felony Offense Bureau, and ADA Ferron A. Lien of the Major Crime Unit of the Felony Offense Bureau of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Criminal complaints and indictments are merely accusatory instruments. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. No one is above the law.
