Selden Man Indicted for Fleeing Crash That Killed Pedestrian

Lan Truong Allegedly Stopped to Remove Victim from Road Before Fleeing Scene

(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Lan Truong, 44, of Selden, was indicted for Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting and a related charge, for allegedly striking and killing a pedestrian, 37-year-old Victoria Hutson of Selden, with his car.

“Victoria Hutson was less than two weeks away from her 38th birthday when she was struck by a driver who allegedly left her at the side of the road and fled,” said District Attorney Tierney. “Pedestrians walking around Suffolk County in broad daylight deserve to feel safe.”

According to the investigation, on November 5, 2025, at approximately 11:21 a.m., Truong was allegedly driving a 2016 Toyota Camry northbound on Boyle Road in Selden when it swerved into the right-hand shoulder lane where Hutson was walking, striking her. The impact sent Hutson’s body partially into the road. Following the incident, Truong allegedly did not call authorities. Instead, Truong was allegedly seen stopped at the next intersection where he got out of the 2016 Toyota Camry, walked over to Hutson’s body and dragged her into the shoulder. He then allegedly fled while bystanders attempted to render aid to Hutson, who died at the scene from the injuries she sustained in the crash.

Later that evening, Suffolk County Police detectives allegedly located the 2016 Toyota Camry behind Truong’s residence. Investigators allegedly observed blood on the vehicle’s windshield, passenger-side door, and passenger-side window. The vehicle was seized and secured as evidence.  On November 6, 2025, Truong was arrested.

On November 20, 2025, Truong was arraigned on the indictment before Supreme Court Justice John B. Collins for one count of Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting, a Class D felony, and one count of Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a License, a Traffic Infraction.

Justice Collins ordered Trong held on $200,000 cash, $400,000 bond or $2,000,000 partially secured bond during the pendency of the case.  Truong is due back in court on December 16, 2025, and faces 2⅓ to 7 years if convicted on the top count. He is being represented by Chase Brown, Esq.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Annemarie DiBlasio of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau, and the investigation was conducted by Detective Richard Hennes of the Suffolk County Police Department Major Case Unit.

Criminal complaints and indictments are merely accusatory instruments. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. No one is above the law.
