Queens Man Indicted for Rape

Andrew Ramsaroop Met Teen on a Social Media App

(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced the indictment of Andrew Ramsaroop, a 30-year-old Queens man accused of raping a 13-year-old that he met on the social media app Snapchat.

“This defendant allegedly used a social media app to gain access to the victim,” said Tierney. “He allegedly knew the teen was 13 years old yet this adult continued to communicate with this child and eventually convinced her to meet him in person in Suffolk County. The targeting of children will not be tolerated and offenders will be held responsible for their actions.”

Ramsaroop is charged with two counts of Rape in the Second Degree; one count of Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
According to the investigation, Ramsaroop began a relationship with the teen through the social media app and communicated with her for approximately two weeks before travelling to Suffolk County in May of 2022 to engage in sexual acts with her on two separate occasions. He was arrested on May 20, 2022.

On June 2, 2022, at his arraignment on the indictment, Suffolk County Court Judge Karen M. Wilutis ordered Ramsaroop held on $300,000cash/$600,000 bond or $2 million partially secured bond. Ramsaroop is being represented by Legal Aid. His next court date is June 27, 2022.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Tara Laterza of the Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Bureau.

Criminal complaints and indictments are merely accusatory instruments. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. No one is above the law.
