(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that a 32-year-old Bay Shore man1 was sentenced to 18 years in prison after he was convicted by guilty plea in March to Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, and other related charges, for sexually abusing a young victim for over a decade.
“The acts that this defendant subjected the victim to are unconscionable,” said District Attorney Tierney. “Our hearts go out to her for her bravery in coming forward. Her action will protect others from abuse.”
According to the investigation and the defendant’s admissions during his guilty plea allocution, between Fall 2012 and September 2022, the defendant subjected her to repeated acts of sexual abuse, beginning when she was only 6 years old and continuing until she was 16 years old. The sexual abuse resulted in the defendant impregnating the victim when she was only 15 years old and did not end until she gave birth to the child. Subsequent DNA paternity testing corroborated the victim’s allegations.
On March 11, 2025, the defendant pleaded guilty before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis to:
• One count of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, a Class B violent felony;
• One count of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the Second Degree, a Class D violent felony;
• Two counts of Rape in the Third degree, Class E felonies; and
• One count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class A misdemeanor.
At the time of the plea, the defendant was certified as a sexual offender, and upon his release from prison, the defendant will be assigned to a designated level as a registered sex offender.
On April 11, 2025, Justice Wilutis sentenced the defendant to 18 years in prison, followed by 10 years of post-release supervision. The District Attorney’s Office had requested 20 years in prison, followed by 15 years of post-release supervision. The defendant was represented by Scott Zerner, Esq.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Katherine Flinchum of the Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Bureau, and the investigation was conducted by Detective Jacob Alerte of the Suffolk County Police Department’s Special Victims Section.
