(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Gary Conyers, 59, of Patchogue, was sentenced to 27 years to life in prison after a jury found him guilty of Predatory Sexual Assault and other related charges, for forcing six women to perform oral sex on him at knifepoint.
“We recognize the lasting trauma that sexual assault inflicts on survivors, and we remain committed to ensuring that all victims are treated with dignity, respect, and support throughout the justice process,” said District Attorney Tierney. “I want to thank the Sheriff’s Office and the Suffolk County Police Department for their important work on this case, and I encourage anyone who has been victimized to report such crimes to the police.”
The evidence at trial established that between October 2023 and December 2023, Conyers preyed upon six different women and forcibly compelled them to give him oral sex without their consent. At the time of his crimes, the victims were addicted to crack-cocaine and living in poverty. Conyers lured the victims into his car or home with the promise of drugs, money, and even a shower. Once he isolated the victims, Conyers used or threatened to use a knife to force them to comply with his demands for oral sex. In multiple incidents, Conyers used the knife to inflict physical injuries on the victims including slashing one in the neck and stabbing another in the face. Conyers also strangled one victim with her scarf until she lost consciousness.
Following an investigation by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the Suffolk County Police Department, and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, Conyers was placed under arrest on May 27, 2024.
On March 18, 2026, Conyers was convicted of the following charges after a jury trial heard before Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei:
- Eight counts of Predatory Sexual Assault, Class A-II felonies;
- Seven counts of Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, Class B violent felonies;
- Seven counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, Class D violent felonies;
- Two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, Class D violent felonies; and
- One count of Strangulation, a Class D violent felony.
On April 21, 2026, Justice Mazzei sentenced Conyers to 27 years to life in prison. He was represented by Scott Gross, Esq.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Veronica McMahon of the Major Crime Bureau and Tara O’Donnell of the Public Corruption Bureau, with the assistance of Crime Victim Advocates Nicole DeGuida, Gisel Navalo, and Keily Pozo, as well as Discovery Expeditor Taylor Steele. The investigation was conducted by Detective David Leath of the Suffolk County Police Department, with further investigative assistance conducted by Lisa Labriola of the District Attorney’s Tech Services Unit and Detective Investigator Lorraine Winters.
