Andres Cabrera-Sanchez Allegedly Possessed the Pistol and Cocaine During Raid of a Brentwood Restaurant

(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Andres Cabrera-Sanchez, 25, a Honduran national, was indicted for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and other related charges, for allegedly possessing a loaded and unserialized semiautomatic pistol and a magazine with a capacity greater than 10 rounds during a raid of La Costa Catracha Restaurant in Brentwood.

“The defendant was in a Brentwood restaurant allegedly armed with a loaded, unserialized pistol, posing a serious threat to everyone inside and to the surrounding community,” said District Attorney Tierney. “My office will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to aggressively prosecute anyone who illegally possesses dangerous weapons in Suffolk County.”

According to the investigation, on April 4, 2026, officers from the Suffolk County Police Department were assisting the State Liquor Authority with the inspection of La Costa Catracha Restaurant in Brentwood. During the inspection, Cabrera-Sanchez allegedly fled to the basement of the location where he was followed by members of the Suffolk County Police Department.

When police officers approached him, Cabrera-Sanchez allegedly tossed a dark metal object from his waistband behind sheetrock that was propped up against a basement wall.

Officers arrested Cabrera-Sanchez and recovered a loaded and unserialized semiautomatic pistol, assembled with a polymer 80 frame and loaded with a magazine with a capacity greater than 10 rounds. Cabrera-Sanchez was subsequently searched and allegedly also found in possession of cocaine.

On April 16, 2026, Cabrera-Sanchez was arraigned on the indictment before County Court Judge Bryan Browns for the following charges:

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C violent felony;
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a Class D violent felony;
  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a Class E felony; and
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a Class A misdemeanor.

Judge Browns ordered Cabrera-Sanchez held on $100,000 cash, $200,000 bond, or $1,000,000 partially secured bond during the pendency of the case. Cabrera-Sanchez is due back in court on May 4, 2026, and faces 15 years in prison if convicted on the top count. He is being represented by the Legal Aid Society.

The United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has lodged an immigration detainer to take custody of Cabrera-Sanchez following this prosecution.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Moran of the Violent Criminal Enterprises Bureau, and the investigation was conducted by Detective Patrick Casiano of the Suffolk County Police Department’s Third Squad.

Criminal complaints and indictments are merely accusatory instruments. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. No one is above the law.
